About Earth and Sky

2001 brings the release of Earth and Sky, on Blahblahwoofwoof Records, including full-band production by Keith Greeninger, and acoustic tracks featuring Joe Craven, produced by Mark Lemaire. The songs draw on the themes of loss and rebirth, forgiveness and redemption, and range from groove-oriented rock to poignant ballads. In Expecting to Fly Megan asks a friend who died in a motorcycle crash What were you trying to prove that night racing across the desert utill dawn...Washing your face in the wind and the rain, riding with no helmet on ?

A little girl at play is the inspiration for In the Evening. A single mother sings a lullaby to her baby in the back seat in My Little One. Supporting cast includes Keith Greeninger, Dayan Kai, Jamie Byrd, Anne Weiss, Alice Dimicele, Dave Nachmanoff, Dennis Murphy, Jimmy Norris, and Tim Prince. Megan has shared the stage with Cheryl Wheeler, Darryl Purpose, Michael McNevin, Steve Seskin, and Annie Wenz. In her live performances, Megan develops a close rapport with her listeners by introducing many of her songs with personal anecdotes, creating an atmosphere of relaxed intimacy, and allowing the listener to become an active participant in the musical experience.

About Noisy World

Noisy World was recorded in 10 months during 1995. Mark Lemaire, who produced Already Home was with me from the planning stages through the final mix. I had been playing with a trio of Eric Schoen on percussion and Lee Elfenbein on upright bass, so we went into the studio "sounding like a band" and recorded all basic tracks in three days.

Eric Schoen, a talented multi-instrumentalist, put together a drum kit consisting of a baby kick drum, conga, piccollo snare, bongoes, cymbals, and hand percussion. Lee Elfenbein played bass (an old upright that his father also played) on most tracks. Mark Lemaire added electric bass on a few tracks, too. Overdubs were done at Mark Lemaire's home studio over the following months. I was so fortunate to have friends who were both talented and generous with their time on the recording.

On the opening cut, "Paris", I was lucky to find an accordianist from Paris, Odile Lavault, who gave a french flavor to the song. Odile specializes in French cafe music of the 30's, 40's and 50's, and performs with her quartet "The Baguette Quartet". Jamie Byrd and Keith Greeninger (who have the two of the most amazing voices that I know) sang backups on "Paris", "Still On the Run" and "Noisy World". Lars Jensen played mandolin on "The Gold Country", and Roger Feuer played tasty guitar on "Tin Roof Raindance" and "Wreckage".

I added one song that has no accompaniment-just me and my guitar-"New Year's Day" to close the album. My husband, Jim Wilkin, took pictures on me in a neighborhood pool for the cover shot, and Rainy Strauss did all the layout and design.
